God almighty. If you’re reading this, you might as well jump off a bridge. I typically discuss software technology and business and legal implications of technology and marketing (or the failures thereof). Sound interesting? You need help. Seriously.

I’m looking for a new case for my iPhone, and saw someone with a pretty cool case that looked like it might fit the bill if what I desire(d) in a case. I held it in my hand, and it felt right, I’m big on tools feeling right, I asked the person how they liked it and they were very positive about it… Two for two… They tell me the price, which is right about what I expected… Three for three… So I inquired about who it was made by, they tell me Speck Products makes it, and I’m busy googleing Speck Products on my iPhone, and I click the link, what do you think comes up, no not pages full of amazing speck products, a page telling me I need the latest flash to view the site (I don’t care that the iPhone doesn’t do flash, it does everything else)… Now I think that is about as stupid of a move as you can make, making your website unavailable to a large portion of potential customers… I’m going to stick with the incipio case I have, it’s a little stretched out, but it’s been a long year…

Gotta love screens like this…

Most commercials are just an annoyance, that come and go without notice, a bathroom break for those without Tivo.

Some commercials are funny, and end up being repeatedly played into oblivion, and make people without Tivo, do the potty dance.

Then there are the extra obnoxious (political excluded), and the latest barrage of McDonalds McNugget® commercials, and the continued siege of those freaking Geico caveman commercials, and the new annoyance is the Arby’s bedroom commercial.

The Nugget commercials are just stupid, I cant imagine the world where a chunk of chicken carries that much weight, except for the weight you’ll gain eating them. What bride to be doesn’t dream of a wedding cake made of chicken nuggets, and me and my buddies always use nuggets in place of cold hard cash, and the life of the party always shows up carrying a couple of 10 packs.

I would like to know which executive at geico, a caveman obsessed ad man has compromising pictures of… They weren’t ever funny, interesting or informative, never ever. Then to think that a television network actually made of series out of it. I have to say the pinnacle of the caveman stupidity is the one on the tennis court with Billie Jean King, the caveman may get it, but I don’t.

Now we have the Arby’s bedroom commercial, the one with the hat, enough said…

Yep. You read correctly. I’m not stt-tt-tt-uttering. Ok, maybe a little.

So, what’s up with the fucking dumbass naming conventions lately? I thought the Linux world owned the rights to fucking stupid names like Feisty Fawn, Dapper Dickhead, Whorry Hedgehole, and apps like Joomla. (what the fuck is a Joomla anyway? nevermind. Don’t answer that).

Then came Microsoft and their penchant for the fucking stupid long names like “Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Extras Edition” and “System Center Configuration Manager” or even “Internet Explorer”. The competition has names like OSX, Tivoli, OpenView and Firefox. Simple. Brief. Not good enough for the overpaid marketing goons in Redmond.

But wait! If you call before midnight tonight!… you’ll discover that hardware isn’t immune to marketing idiocy at its best. How about Intel’s preferences for naming chips? Tigerton? WTF? Merced? Klimath? Who cares if they’re proper names for places. Why not “Moorehead” or “Brisbane” or “Hiroshima”? Those are places too? Tigerton? Geez.

I have a solution: go back to version numbering. Versions that include the date/period are nice. Simple. Helpful. When did Pentium 4 HT come out? I dunno. When did chip 2007.01.1234 come out? I’d guess sometime in early 2007. For God’s sake, even Apple has enough sense to use a version number with OSX. Hence 10.4. Don’t hold your breath for a version following behind “Windows Vista Home Premium Edition”.

I wonder why we sacrifice so many brave men and women in the middle east when we could simply dress up marketing pukes as soldiers and let them market their services in the Al Anbar or Waziristan provinces. I’m sure the locals would embrace them warmly (and explosively). The world is getting dumber and dumber every day.
